Diabetes Awareness Week 14th – 20th June 2021

Could you be at risk of type 2 diabetes?

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you, or someone you know, could be at risk of type 2 diabetes.

13.6 million people in the UK are now at increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Sound scary? It needn’t be – research has shown that for some people, a combination of physical activity and dietary adjustments can reduce their risk by about 50%.

How do I know if I’m at risk?

There are many factors that can increase the risk of you developing type 2 diabetes. Some of these factors cannot be controlled, e.g. if a family member has type 2 then you might be at an increased risk of developing it yourself.

However, some risk factors CAN be controlled e.g. diet and physical activity levels. Most people know that they could do something to improve their health, but it can be difficult knowing how to do it.

Since the events of the past year, it has never been more important to look after your health. Make that first step now and start your journey towards diabetes prevention.

Using the NHS ‘Know Your Risk’ can help to identify whether you could be at risk: https://riskscore.diabetes.org.uk/start
